T.R. Knight Returns to TV on SVU: I Embrace My Fears

T.R. Knight isn’t afraid of anything. Just ask him.
"I think it’s dangerous as an actor to get too comfortable, but maybe sometimes I go towards the discomfort a little too much," Knight tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "There are a lot of things I maybe should have walked away from, but instead they kind of draw me in a little bit more because there’s that terror to it."
Since leaving Grey’s Anatomy in 2009, he’s starred in his first musical (Parade) and performed David Mamet’s A Life in the Theatre on Broadway. For his return to TV on Wednesday’s Law & Order: SVU (10/9c on NBC), Knight is again embracing the unexpected to play a suspected rapist — a (seemingly) far cry from Grey’s sweet, soft-spoken Dr. George O’Malley.

In the episode, Knight plays Gabriel Thomas, a family man who stands by his innocence despite the fact his description and DNA match a string of rape cases. “It was just out of the blue,” he says about his invitation to guest-star. “It’s cool when you get that phone call and they want to invite you to the party.”
It also didn’t hurt that Knight knew both Mariska Hargitay and new series regular Danny Pino. “It was good to get a chance to work with people that you’ve always wanted to work with,” he says. “It’s very interesting because you have a show that’s been on the air for 12 years so you’ve got a lot of people who have been there for the entire time, and then you’ve got the new people too so it’s a great combination of energies.”

The revolving door of dramatic series television is one Knight is familiar with. After rising to household stardom and earning an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of George on Grey’s Anatomy, he departed the hit medical drama at the end of Season 5. Since hanging up his Seattle Grace scrubs, Knight has mainly appeared on stage. “I had been away from it for awhile, so you get those little voices in the back of your head saying, ‘Oh I’m never going to be able to do it again because I’ve been away so long,’” he says. “It’s been nice to get back to the stage in the last couple of years. That was all I did really previously before Grey’s. Theater’s been in my life longer than television has.”
Between Parade and A Life in the Theatre, two years have passed since Knight last stood in front of the camera, which made his return to TV that much more thrilling. “They’re so completely opposite as far as rehearsal and preparation. In theater, you have so much time to work on something and figure stuff out and then the challenge is to keep it fresh constantly even though you’ve worked on it so much,” he says. “Television moves so fast, there’s so much work. You try to do as work as you can do before, but a lot of it is right then as you’re doing it when you’re filming, which has its own level of excitement to it.”

Looking to the future, Knight says he would love to continue jumping back and forth between the stage and the small screen. However, he says picking projects is more about the role than the medium. “You play a certain character for five years, and the character was a wonderful character and I loved playing him, but part of the reason you want to be an actor is you don’t want to just do the same thing all the time. Part of the reason why you put up with the constant job-to-job thing is because you want to do as varied and as interesting roles as possible,” Knight says. “Every actor has their own scale of what they’re right for, so I like to stretch that as much as possible if people allow me to.”
But would that ever include a foray back into a series regular role? Knight isn’t ruling anything out. “If that comes along and that’s in the cards — that’s wonderful,” he says.
I’ll never forgive shonda for how she screwed up the road to recovery stories. Only Cristina really got anything. I was never in my life more excited than I was awaiting how this would affect lexie and then she let it all fade away like nothing. No single resolution between alex and lexie after their break up in form of an actual talk, the nervous tics all just ending unaddressed, the psyche ward wrapped up in a second and no word about her and Gary her guilt her fear.. And that sucks bc lexie wasn’t begging (AS FAR AS I RECALL IT) everyone was begging and lying and all for Gary not to shoot her.. She just shut her eyes.. Shonda created this awesome finale that gave SO MUCH material and then she fucking made nothing out of it just a fail season of yang/Calzona’s anatomy… Breaks my heart..
I hate how people only love Sasha Alexander since Rizzles..-
.. or since people know she’s besties with She Who Can Neither Smile Nor Sing Nor Act For A Dime, because that makes it seem like NCIS doesn’t exist to people just because they can’t get wet pretending there’s a lesbian context THERE. Tuh. It’s the number fucking one scripted show in the fricking world, dudes.. Sasha did not just crawl out of a hole when that okay show started..
And she’s not just suddenly sexy. She has always been. In fact she was much sexier then with the dark hair, exotic touch..
and looking half as well..old as now as Maura. Yeah, I know time has passed but come on!
I’m bisexual and God only knows I wish for so much more of a portrayal of homosexuality on TV but I hate how everything be that an okay show or a horrible couple or whatever gets declared something super fantastic and praised like a religion just because some bicurious little hetero girls are digging imagining two girls fuck!
What scripted show should I check out? Suggestions are highly welcomed..-
..if based on what you know about what I like/dislike, you know? Don’t need a bunch of shows in my mail just bc you like them personally. Also they should be currently produced nothing that’s already finished or got canceled.
I would also really appreciate if you could give me like a really brief review: What’s it about? Why I think you’d like it (Without spoiling it). And uh that can be about any new show not just shows you watch or suggest.
So wednesdays I babysit and there I have highspeed internet.
New Girl 1x03
Pan Am 1x01 Pan Am 1x02

Rizzoli and Isles 2x02 Rizzoli and Isles 2x03 Rizzoli and Isles 2x04 Rizzoli and Isles 2x05 Rizzoli and Isles 2x06 Rizzoli and Isles 2x07 Rizzoli and Isles 2x08 Rizzoli and Isles 2x09 Rizzoli and Isles 2x10
I’m determined to watch every show there is. If I like it. So I need to check out loads of pilots. Starting with the popular ones. Obviously.
He'll Always Love You For That - The Penelope Papers
Tim:You inspired him. You taught him so much. About how to stand up for himself. About how to be exactly who he was no matter what anyone else thought. Especially his father. He'll always love you for that..
I just love how hurt and all Tim is over his father’s ways. Not in a whiny girly way but in a manly deeply sad way. And how at the same time he has this Woodstock grandma who makes him feel so good about himself. SO cute!
And I was freaking out joyfully when he barked up enough to Gibbs. COOL!
I kinda wish NCIS was more like Grey's Anatomy sometimes. So I'd get Giva and McGiva and maybe a side of Tabby and Gabby whatevs just I like a lot of combinations of pairings and I'd love for some action boudoir style
My life is brilliant, my love is pure. I saw an angel, of this I’m sure. Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will by right here waiting for you. No one, no one, no one Can get in the way of what I’m feeling. This is the way you left me. I’m not pretending. No love no hope no glory, No happy ending. Thanks, you were fuel for thought. Now I’m more lonely than before, but that’s OK. People killed and people dying, Children hurt and women crying. If you practice what you preach, You can turn the other cheek. 'Cause you are amazing. Oh we did amazing things. If I could, then I would. I’ll go wherever you will go. Don’t let the days go by. So tell me why should I let you go. 'Cause we are gonna be, forever you and me. And where I go I just don’t know. I gotta gotta gotta take it slow. Say you’re gonna stay, now I need to know it. And I wanna TV embrace. And she will be loved. Yeah she will be loved. Oh I can’t live, with or without you. Whenever I fall, at your feet. You let your tears… Am I not pretty enough? Is my heart too broken?
When I find myself in times of trouble, Mother Mary comes to me. Sometimes I feel like I don’t have a partner. I’m starting with the man in the mirror. Can you feel the love tonight? I come from a land down under. Once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong. Do I cry too much? Am I too unspoken? Take on me! (Take on me.) Take me on! (Take on me.) I’ll be gone In a day or two!
Save tonight, and find the break of dawn. Come tomorrow, tomorrow I’ll be gone. Gonna take a lot to drag me away from you. There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do. I know she’s playing with me. Well that’s okay ‘cause I got no self-esteem. (Oh way ohh yeah) It’s alright. (Yeah) To tell me. What you think. (Ohh) About me. (Yeahh) I won’t try. (Yeah) To argue. (Yeah) Or hold it. (Ohh) Against you. (Yeah, yeah) It’s too late too apologize. It’s too late. Take your canvas bags. Take your canvas bags. Take your canvas bags to the supermarket. Take your canvas bags. Nothing’s right I’m torn. I’m all out of faith. This is how I feel. I’m cold and I am shamed. Lying naked on the floor. Illusion never changed into something real. I’m quite awake and I can see I’m more than a bird, I’m more than a plane. I’m a birdplane. I’m a birdplane. A mother fuckin’ birdplane.
Doesn’t that sound familiar? Doesn’t that hit too close to home? Doesn’t that make you shiver, The way that things have gone? And doesn’t that seem peculiar, 'Cause everyone wants a little more? It’s something I do remember to never go this far. That’s all it takes to be a star.
